Pillows, lamps, carpets and dresses?

It is probably quite well known that the paper produced at the mill in Bäckhammar is used for sacks and carrier bags. But the fact that it is also used as a base for stylish boutique bags, such as insulating paper or in different types of building laminate found in almost every other household, perhaps not many people know that.

When it comes to the different uses of the kraft paper, the list can be made indefinitely.

In addition to pulp and paper production, Nordic Paper and the mill in Bäckhammar are happy to participate in various types of innovation projects in order to find new sustainable uses for our kraft paper.

One example is when Nordic Paper participated with its kraft paper in a project to establish locally grown textile in Sweden during 2015-2018. The project examined, among other things, whether, and how, sustainable bio-based textile production can be achieved through the production of textile fibres from forest raw materials.

At the end of the project, knowledge, processes, and textile materials based on paper were presented to develop the area around non-woven and textile materials in Sweden. The project also led the government to commission the University of Borås to create a national platform for sustainable textiles.

Between 2018 and 2021, Nordic Paper participated in the project "Skogens tyg" (forest fabrics). The project aimed to increase the value added of biomass and replace yarns made from synthetic fibers from fossil-based raw materials. This contributes to the vision of a circular bioeconomy and to the transition towards a sustainable society.

As a result, Noridc Paper supplies kraft paper to Fabric Forest. Their mission is to produce a sustainable, more environmentally friendly fabric. The world's textile consumption is increasing dramatically and the negative impact on the environment is just as dramatic. Fabric Forest's goal is to change this for the better.

Fabric Forest is part of Svensk Konstsilke AB (SKS), which has been producing yarn and textile from forest materials since it was founded over 100 years ago. Over the decades, SKS has used wood products to make everything from shiny evening dresses to tire reinforcement fibers and has now developed a new and innovative approach to yarn and wire production that uses the natural and renewable richness of Swedish forests to produce a better, more environmentally friendly fabric.

Nordic Paper's kraft paper as pillows, lamps, carpets and clothes has been shown at Paris Design Week 2021. And if you want to take a closer look at the products, you can book the "Knock on Wood" suite at Clarion Sign in Stockholm.
