Silver award for Nordic Paper in Eurosac Grand Prix

Since many years, Nordic Paper is part of the European federation Eurosac. On a yearly basis Eurosac arrange a congress where the member companies are invited to listen to different speakers, attend to seminars and network. During the latest congress, held in the end of May 2022, most of the member companies were represented since the interest in meeting in real life were obvious post pandemic.

During the congress a yearly Grand Prix Award is handed out and all the membership companies are welcome with their entries where the industry´s latest innovations are presented. The main criterion of the competition is that the sack or bag innovations must add value to the industry in terms of sustainable developments, bio-barriers, special features etc.

For the first time Nordic Paper participated in the Grand Prix this year, which resulted in a silver. The product Nordic Paper competed with is a result of a collaboration with several local actors, such as Karlstads Energi AB, Karlstads municipality, Paper Province and the sack converter Jonsac. Together we have developed a sealable paper bag for household waste.

The collaboration project started when Karlstads Energi AB raised the problem with household waste that was thrown in paper bags made for shopping. These bags are excellent for reuse but not for throwing household waste since they are difficult to seal. Instead, the collaboration partners developed an environmentally friendly, paper-based alternative to plastic bags for non-recyclable household waste. The bag is sealable and made of strong kraft paper, to that it is cleaner to dispose of and easier to handle by the garbage collectors. It´s also recyclable and biodegradable. Since the bag has been tested in selected households, with very good feedback, the next step in the project is to be taken and the development of the bag will be continued. The bag will soon be available in local stores in Karlstad, as part of the test.
